The world of plastic surgery is expanding to meet the patient’s needs, so knowing what skin tightening treatment suits you best is not always straightforward. For example, do you choose a less invasive procedure and then get a facelift, or do you begin with a facelift right away? Also, will a non-invasive procedure be enough to bring back a more youthful appearance, and if so, which one do you go with? These are the questions patients face when trying to make the best aesthetic choices for themselves.

Fortunately, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. William J. Vinyard, MD, FACS, and his team of experts have a solution for your sagging facial skin! Here at our Port St. Lucie, FL, office, we offer treatment plans to relieve the stress of making a complex choice while restoring your youthful appearance. We know that sifting through mountains of online articles is never fruitful, so we will help you choose between two of the most popular skin tightening options available on the market: Morpheus8 vs. Ultherapy!

What Is Morpheus8, and How Does Morpheus8 Work?

Morpheus8 is a microneedling treatment that emits radiofrequency (RF) heat to treat a multitude of skin concerns, from acne scars to stretch marks and sagging skin.

The Morpheus8 treatment rejuvenates your skin through a technique called subdermal adipose remodeling. While Dr. Vinyard passes it over your skin, the Morpheus8 device will create tiny wounds in your skin, through which the radiofrequency energy is transported deep into your soft tissue. This combination of microneedling and radiofrequency energy encourages the skin to heal and produce fresh collagen and elastin, the skin’s main building blocks.

Another valuable benefit of Morpheus8 is its ability to reach deep into your soft tissue (i.e., 4 millimeters) and restructure it by reducing fat and helping your body grow new layers of skin. So say goodbye to sagging skin, scars, stretch marks, and even more prominent signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles!

The Morpheus8 technique could not allow for a more straightforward procedure! After applying a topical numbing cream, Dr. Vinyard will run the Morpheus8 device over each target area. You may experience some tingling and warmth during the skin tightening procedure, but overall, the Morpheus8 procedure is tolerable for a majority of patients and is a VIPS favorite!

Morpheus8 Benefits for the Skin

At the Vinyard Institute of Plastic Surgery, we love Morpheus8 because of its many skin benefits! Morpheus8 can target and correct numerous skin concerns, including:

  • Wrinkles;
  • Sagging skin;
  • Surgical scars;
  • Acne scars;
  • Stretch marks;
  • Double chin;
  • Neck fat;
  • Mid-facial jowls.

At the end of your Morpheus8 treatment journey, you’ll be ready to enjoy tightened, rejuvenated skin with an enhanced, smoother texture and fewer age-related blemishes!

How Many Morpheus8 Treatment Sessions Are Recommended for Optimal Results?

To achieve the desired results, we recommend getting at least three Morpheus8 treatment sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart. After this initial stage, Dr. Vinyard recommends scheduling an annual maintenance treatment session to tweak and preserve your aesthetic results.

What Is Ultherapy and What Does Ultherapy Treat?

Ultherapy is another option for non-surgical facial rejuvenation. This non-invasive skin tightening treatment uses high-intensity focused ultrasound waves to reach deep into your skin and cause new collagen production. Akin to Morpheus8, the heat generated by the ultrasound energy stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, the two proteins responsible for tighter, more youthful skin.

The Ultherapy procedure is straightforward. Prior to the procedure, the plastic surgeon applies ultrasound gel to the face to allow imaging and, consequently, to determine how deep the ultrasound waves need to go into the skin. Afterward, the Ultherapy applicator is passed over the treatment area. The patient may experience some tingling or warmth during the treatment, although these mild side effects are typical.

Ultherapy Benefits for the Skin

Ultherapy’s main aesthetic benefit is its ability to reduce signs of aging, such as wrinkles and smile lines. However, while Ultherapy can stimulate the growth of new skin, it does not restructure it like Morpheus8, which is why Ultherapy results are less distinctive. Also, Ultherapy does not boast as many aesthetic benefits as Morpheus8, a solid reason why we at VIPS choose Morpheus8 as our go-to non-invasive treatment for skin rejuvenation!

How Many Ultherapy Treatment Sessions Are Recommended for Optimal Results?

Due to its lack of ability to remodel the skin, fewer treatments are typically needed for Ultherapy. Usually, a single session is enough to yield typical wrinkle reduction results, which will gradually appear within 3 to 6 months. Ultherapy clients also need to return for yearly maintenance after their first treatment.

Morpheus8 vs. Ultherapy: How Do They Differ?

Morpheus8 and Ultherapy are two very different procedures, and it’s not just the type of procedure that highlights these differences. Patients themselves notice contrasts between the two treatments in the actual procedure, where they can get the treatment, the results, and the longevity of the results.

Treatment Approach

The most noticeable difference between Morpheus8 and Ultherapy is how they tackle your skin imperfections. Morpheus8 uses tiny microneedles to penetrate deep into the skin and deliver radiofrequency energy, whereas Ultherapy does not involve any skin penetration. Instead, Ultherapy uses ultrasound waves to warm your skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production.

Furthermore, both Morpheus8 and Ultherapy stimulate collagen and elastin production, but Morpheus8 uses both heat and your body’s natural wound healing response in the process. In contrast, Ultherapy uses only the heat created by ultrasound waves.

Treatment Area

The two treatments also differ in their targeted areas of the body. Here is where Morpheus8 shows its superiority over Ultherapy, as it can be used virtually anywhere on your body, from your arms and abdomen to your upper lip and chin. Ultherapy, on the other hand, can only be used on your chest, face, and neck. So if you’re looking for all-encompassing diversity, Morpheus8 is a perfect choice!

The Desired Outcome

Morpheus8 and Ultherapy also yield different results with different timelines. Morpheus8 results will appear within the first 3-4 weeks after your initial treatment, although you will begin to notice improvement during the first three days after your treatment. Your results will continue to improve up to three months after receiving Morpheus8 as more collagen and elastin build up in your skin. Ultherapy, on the other hand, does not show any results until three to six months after the procedure.

Result Longevity

The final contrast between Morpheus8 and Ultherapy is their result longevity. Morpheus8 results tend to last two to three years, although their longevity can be increased by pairing your Morpheus8 procedure with FACEtite or BodyTite, depending on your target areas. Ultherapy only lasts about one year, with results appearing approximately six months after the initial treatment. Although Ultherapy and Morpheus8 are both considered noninvasive procedures, Morpheus8’s results last significantly longer!

Is Morpheus8 Better Than Ultherapy?

Due to Morpheus8’s more expansive abilities to remedy your skin concerns and its result longevity, Dr. Vinyard consistently prefers Morpheus8 over Ultherapy. Patients who visit our Port St. Lucie, FL, office enjoy a myriad of aesthetic benefits from their Morpheus8 treatment, such as:

  • Minimal invasiveness;
  • Faster procedure;
  • Minimal downtime;
  • Natural results;
  • Excellent result longevity;
  • The stimulation of collagen and elastin production.

With all of these advantages of choosing it, there is little doubt that Morpheus8 is the preferred treatment here at VIPS! While Ultherapy may serve as a quick fix to your skin concerns, Morpheus8 is the superior answer to your sagging skin, acne scars, stretch marks, and whatever you feel gets in the way of your aesthetic skin goals. Dr. Vinyard and his team of experts are more than happy to introduce you to Morpheus8 and its magical skincare abilities during a one-on-one initial consultation, so don’t hesitate to pay us a visit and become a part of our Mermaid family!
