Before 2015, the neck and chin rejuvenation world was dominated by the scalpel. However, 2015 saw the emergence of a revolutionary treatment: Kybella by Allergan. Kybella is an FDA-approved injection treatment with the intent of bringing the monopoly of scalpel treatments in neck and chin rejuvenation to a halt.

Kybella’s main ingredient, a synthetic deoxycholic acid, akin to a salt found in the human bile, dissolves the fat cells under the chin, preventing them from storing any additional fatty tissue. That is when the body’s immune cells come into play, removing the fatty tissue dissolved during the treatment. To sum it up, Kybella was considered a simple approach to neck and chin rejuvenation without going under the scalpel.

Kybella vs. Minimally Invasive Treatments

However, after more than five years, the excitement surrounding Kybella has diminished, and plastic surgeons and patients alike are returning to the previous approaches to neck and chin rejuvenation. The bottom line is, the benefits brought by this treatment do not outweigh its downsides, something that we can see through the lens of procedure numbers. In 2019, plastic surgeons delivered little under 66,000 injection lipolysis injections such as Kybella.

Here at the Vinyard Institute of Plastic Surgery, our medical team, led by Dr. William J. Vinyard, MD, FACS, focuses on achieving superior aesthetic results with a reduced number of treatment sessions. For that reason, Dr. Vinyard relies on a nonsurgical procedure, which harnesses the benefits of radiofrequency (RF) energy to remove excess fatty tissue below the chin and tighten the skin without using a scalpel – FACEtite. Compared to Kybella, we believe that numerous benefits put FACEtite at the top of neck and chin rejuvenation. Care to find out why? Keep reading this blog to learn why FACEtite is a superior choice to Kybella!

#1: Kybella Requires Multiple Treatment Sessions

The appeal of a rejuvenation treatment lies in many aspects, but one of the most important ones is the number of treatment sessions. In a world where one-time experiences are the golden rule of thumb, Kybella takes a different, less appealing approach, as it requires multiple treatments to deliver solid results (the Kybella website mentions as many as six treatment sessions!). Furthermore, patients who choose Kybella will quite rightly feel disappointed, as they will barely notice any improvements after the first treatment.

Here at VIPS, Dr. Vinyard prefers to deliver superior results through fewer treatment sessions. With FACEtite, the patient will experience noticeable results after just one treatment, with the possibility of adding another treatment for more dramatic improvements. During your complimentary consultation, Dr. Vinyard will assess both your medical history and aesthetic goals and recommend an adequate number of treatment sessions for you.

#2: Pain Levels

Shortly after Allergan released Kybella on the market, the thought of a painless, minimally invasive treatment has quickly dissipated. Compared to the reduced number of advantages it delivers, Kybella injections cause significant pain. They require unnecessary amounts of downtime – the lingering soreness and swelling can prevent improvements from showing for weeks on end. This is opposed to other neurotoxin or dermal filler treatments, such as BOTOX® or JUVÉDERM®, whose pain levels are more than tolerable compared to Kybella.

Instead, FACEtite has a long history of short recovery times and minimal side effects. After just one week, you can say goodbye to facial swelling with minimal discomfort. During that time, any redness will recede, allowing you to enjoy your desired results!

#3: Less than Satisfactory Results

Right from the start, Kybella was marketed as a sort of “Botox for fat.” That shouldn’t come as a surprise since Allergan developed both injectables. However, unlike its older sibling, Kybella failed to meet the expectations. Most patients, excited to see improvements in the mirror after the first treatment, were left disappointed. Results appear at a slow pace and depend on the number of treatment sessions. Furthermore, since Allergan recommends approx. six treatments spaced one month apart, you may have to wait more than six months before getting the desired results – quite the bummer, considering that you can achieve the same or superior results through other treatments without waiting for so long.

FACEtite falls into this category, and the VIPS medical team has had enough time to experience it firsthand. Unlike Kybella, you will notice substantial results the moment you leave the procedure room. Moreover, since FACEtite stimulates the production of fresh collagen, you will continuously see improvements for anywhere between three to eight weeks after the procedure – it’s no wonder why our FACEtite patients are so quick to share their positive experiences through reviews:

“Amazing and Painless Experience – I would highly recommend having the FACEtite treatment. Dr. Vinyard’s office was amazing, very quick recovery. Do not hesitate to have this procedure. I had an amazing experience and it was completely painless.” K.
