For many women, the joy of building a family goes beyond any physical changes it could cause. However, these physical alterations are often unappealing to the aesthetic sense and can negatively influence a mother’s confidence and self-esteem. Therefore, women should not have to give up their physical appearance for the happiness of family life!

The Mommy Makeover is the perfect option for women who miss their pre-baby body! This set of procedures simultaneously returns women to the glory of their pre-baby shape while allowing them to achieve the aesthetic they’ve always sought. Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. William Vinyard, MD, FACS, understands mothers’ desire to care for their children and cut a stunning figure, which is why he offers surgery options for mothers with a variety of aesthetic preferences!

What Does a Mommy Makeover Do for Patients?

The mommy makeover procedures are designed to eliminate or resculpt excess tissue while reshaping the body post-pregnancy. A new mommy’s aesthetic goals can be achieved through:

  • Breast surgery (e.g., breast lift and breast augmentation);
  • Removal of excess skin and fat in the abdomen (tummy tuck);
  • Removal of excess fat (liposuction);
  • Vaginal rejuvenation (FEMtite).

The Different Procedures in a Mommy Makeover

Not every woman undergoes a standard mommy makeover treatment plan. Instead, Dr. Vinyard personalizes mommy makeovers to meet the individual needs of each woman’s body. The full repertoire of procedures includes a breast lift or augmentation, tummy tuck, liposuction, and a vaginal rejuvenation procedure (e.g., FEMtite).

A breast lift or augmentation reshapes the sagging breasts women experience after nursing. Often, the breasts change to an elongated shape and become deflated because of nursing or bodily stress. However, with the help of an experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Vinyard, this pregnancy consequence can become a thing of the past!

The tummy tuck procedure is designed to fix excess skin and fat that result from pregnancy in the abdominal area. It also addresses a condition known as diastasis recti to repair separated abdominal muscles.

Liposuction removes any undesired fat that may have appeared during pregnancy. Many women struggle to lose their post-pregnancy weight through diet and exercise, especially the fat that crops up in unexpected areas. Liposuction can help mitigate this issue, although it should never be considered a weight-loss procedure!

The final procedure in a mommy makeover is vaginal rejuvenation through FemTite. Through the use of a handheld device that removes loose skin with only a tiny incision, this technique eliminates the loose tissue and skin with minimal pain. Even better, the FemTite results continue to improve for 3-6 months after the procedure!

Is There a Right Time for a Mommy Makeover?

Because mommy makeovers follow giving birth, new mommies must consult with Dr. Vinyard about the right time for their surgery. Some patients will be fully recovered from giving birth within three months, and for some, it will take up to one year. The timing ultimately depends on numerous factors.

When Was Your Child Born?

One of the most important factors is how removed you are from giving birth. Your body’s healing process after pregnancy will take a significant amount of time, almost always multiple months. Also, depending on which procedures you would like to have done, the mommy makeover waiting time will differ.

Generally speaking, all mothers must wait at least six weeks after giving birth, or eight weeks if they receive a C-section. Mothers who had a difficult pregnancy or birthing process will need to wait even longer, depending on their doctor’s instructions.

New mommies will also need to let their bodies return to their pre-pregnancy weight through rest, exercise, and a healthy diet. Breastfeeding may slow this process down, but most mothers will eventually return to their pre-pregnancy weight.

More specifically, women looking to receive a breast lift or augmentation should wait 3-6 months after milk production has stopped before undergoing plastic surgery. They will also need to wait for their breasts to return to their regular size to make sure they enjoy the aesthetic they are hoping for.

The new mommy’s body must undergo a few changes before being ready for a tummy tuck procedure:

  • Its weight must return to pre-pregnancy levels;
  • The stomach skin and uterus must return to their pre-pregnancy shape.

Usually, 9 to 12 months after giving birth, the stomach and uterus will return to their natural state, any post-pregnancy weight will recede, and the body will be ready to undergo the long-awaited tummy tuck!

Are You Planning To Have More Children in the Future?

It is also important that mothers time the surgery for the right time of their life. If a mommy makeover procedure is done before you are finished having children, the results could be altered or even undone. A safe and healthy pregnancy is still possible after having a mommy makeover, but to ensure the best results, Dr. Vinyard and his team of experts recommend timing your mommy makeover treatment plan after you are done having children.

Are You Up for the Mommy Makeover Recovery Period?

Perhaps the most important aspect of the mommy makeover treatment plan for new mommies to understand is the recovery time involved.

Typically, most patients need 6 weeks of rest from strenuous physical activity for ideal results. During the first few weeks of recovery, mothers will need to keep from heavy lifting of any sort; this means having someone help you take care of your baby is imperative.

Most patients also need someone to help them around the house, as it will be several weeks before they can return to their normal activities. Because mothers live strenuous lives, it is essential that they let their bodies heal properly.

Dr. Vinyard will also apply compression garments and prescribe pain medication to alleviate the swelling. He will also give you a workout plan to begin 6 weeks after surgery and continue until about three months after surgery.

It is normal to notice some fatigue, tenderness, and bruising after surgery, especially if you receive either a tummy tuck or liposuction. However, these side effects should fade within the first few weeks after the procedure.

All of the surgery recommendations from Dr. Vinyard for the recovery period are designed to help mothers avoid complications. Although mommies who receive a mommy makeover might have to spend 2-3 weeks focusing on their health and healing during recovery, its long-lasting results will boost your self-esteem and return your body to your pre-pregnancy shape and glow!
