If you are one of the many women who are longing for assistance with your female heath, but are nervous to take the first step of vaginal rejuvenation, you are in the right place.

If you are considering vaginal rejuvenation, any of the emotions of embarrassment, heightened self awareness, or confusion may be wandering through your mind, but never fear! Here you will find a guide to the vagina, and all of the options that are available to help restore you and your vagina to their original state of confidence and health.

A Brief Tour of Your Vagina

Just in case your Sex Ed teacher didn’t cover this thoroughly, or the years have caused distinctions to fade, allow us to take you on a brief tour of the vagina.

Starting from the top, the area below the bikini line that pubic hairs love to populate is called the mons. Next, the outer lips of the vagina (which are often incorrectly referred to as the vagina) is the labia, or vulva. There are both the labia majora and minora, and in the center of these is the clitoral hood, which covers the clitoris. Beneath is the urethral opening and the vaginal opening itself. It is crucial to know the names for the various parts “down there” to help you discern what type of vaginal rejuvenation will target the area that you are hoping to target.

Your Options for Vaginal Rejuvenation

There are several procedures that fall under the banner of vaginal rejuvenation, each with their own specific area of expertise.

1. Labiaplasty

A labiaplasty is a reduction of the size or shape of the labia (outer vaginal lips). This surgery trims excess skin that may be the cause of pain during intercourse, irritation during exercising, or embarrassment when wearing tight garments (such as swimsuits). The labia will be restored from their stretched out form that is the result of dramatic weight loss, pregnancy, childbirth, or physical trauma.

2. Clitoral Hood Reduction

A clitoral hood reduction is another vaginal rejuvenation process. This surgery removes a pie-shaped portion of the clitoral hood, and is generally done in conjunction with a labiaplasty to restore the natural aesthetic of the vagina. Choosing to have both a labiaplasty and a clitoral hood reduction will allow the vagina to have a look that is not top heavy, but balanced.

3. Monsplasty

A monsplasty is a procedure that addresses the issue of the lower pooch. The mons (pubic hair growing region below the bikini line) tends to be an area of the body that stubbornly hangs on to pockets of fat or excess skin. The monsplasty will remove the extra tissues, and cause that area to stop drawing too much attention on account of its bulge factor.

4. Vaginoplasty

A vaginoplasty will tighten the walls and muscles of the interior of the vagina. Particularly chosen by women who have given birth and loosened up quite a bit down there, a vaginoplasty uses radiofrequency energy to tighten the muscles that contribute to sexual dysfunction and incontinence, among other things. It is also possible to remove excess skin from the back of the vagina or the exterior, to return your body to its former glory.

Which Vaginal Rejuvenation Process is For You?

Depending on your concerns, whether aesthetic or medical, once you have a good idea of the procedures offered and have pinpointed the areas you’d like to have targeted, it’s time to schedule an initial consultation. Of course, because a vaginal rejuvenation deals with such a sensitive and delicate area of the body, it is extremely important that you seek out a board-certified plastic surgeon that you fully trust.

There is absolutely nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about asking for help, and there is no reason to suffer in silence. Find a doctor who you feel comfortable with, trust the discretion of, and has a solid track record. They will be able to chime in with a professional opinion on which surgery (or surgeries) are right for you. During your initial consultation, they will be able to give you an estimate on what your vaginal rejuvenation will cost, and more specifics for you and your situation.
