Have you noticed that fine lines and wrinkles still appear on your face, even with your commitment to an anti-aging skincare routine? The good news is that there’s a fix for you to consider if you want to restore smooth skin and combat lines and wrinkles: Dysport! Below we will share what Dysport is used for and how you can connect with Dr. Vinyard and his team of experts to start your facial rejuvenation journey!

What Is Dysport?

Dysport is a favorite go-to noninvasive treatment that improves fine lines and wrinkles. Since 2009, Dysport has been used in the US to treat specific muscles that contract and cause the formation of wrinkles. As the muscles relax, they smooth out, and subsequently, your skin will smooth out as well!

What Treatment Areas Does Dysport Target?

The most popular use of Dysport is focused on the upper to mid face — between eyebrows, the forehead, and around the eyes. You can use Dysport if you want to address any of the following signs of natural aging:

  • Frown lines (also called 11s);
  • Forehead lines;
  • Forehead wrinkles;
  • Hooded eyes;
  • Crow’s feet;

What Are the Benefits of This Treatment?

If you are looking for a return to your youthful look, Dysport can provide you with many aesthetic benefits! It will temporarily freeze the muscles that contribute to the formation of new wrinkles and provide natural-looking results. In addition, Dysport has some key benefits for specific types of lines:

Glabellar Lines

These lines, also known as frown lines or 11s, are deep vertical lines that will give you a furrowed brow. Dysport is an effective way to treat glabellar lines, even some of the most profound ones! Furthermore, it can also be used as a preventative treatment to prevent or at least slow down the formation of future glabellar lines.

Other Common Lines

Dysport can be used to treat other common dynamic wrinkles similar to glabellar lines. This includes:

  • Forehead lines;
  • Crow’s feet;
  • Laugh lines;

Some of the benefits you can experience with Dysport include:

  • Treatment and improvement of deep permanent lines;
  • Reverse both Crow’s feet and lipstick lines.

How To Prepare Yourself for the Procedure

If a Dysport treatment seems like the right option for you, then you can begin to prepare yourself for both your consultation and the procedure!

To qualify, you will connect with an aesthetic injector for an assessment. Generally, you are likely to be a good candidate if you are in good health and are concerned about lines and wrinkles. Your provider will check your health history, whether you take blood thinners, muscle relaxants, specific sleep aids, or have certain allergies. It will also be important to share if you’ve received other similar injections (like BOTOX) or antibiotics.

Once qualified, you’ll develop your aesthetic goals and treatment plan with your provider. It would be best if you planned to avoid alcohol for at least two days before and after your treatment to minimize bruising. You’ll also discover whether you should stop or avoid using any medications or supplements that are sometimes associated with bruising (i.e., fish oil, blood thinners, aspirin, etc.).

What To Expect During Your Dysport Treatment

Dysport treatment is well tolerated by most patients. It consists of several quick and mild injections in the treated areas. Once the injections are finished, you can resume your day-to-day activities!

Dysport Recovery

There are a few things to keep in mind for your Dysport recovery. While you will resume your normal day-to-day activities the second you leave the office, there are some things you should avoid within the first 24 hours for a speedy recovery.

To ensure proper settling, you should not touch your face, even if you have minor itching or pain. Also, avoid lying down for at least four hours. And, of course, avoid strenuous exercise or massages.

Also, you may experience some common side effects, such as:

  • Injection site pain;
  • Swelling;
  • Bruising.

These side effects will likely disappear within a couple of days or less!

How Long Do the Results Last?

Although result longevity differs from one patient to another, your Dysport results will last approximately 3-4 months on average.

As you begin to gauge the timing of your results and how long they last, please keep in mind a few factors that may affect result longevity.

Your Age

Naturally, your age will be a major factor in determining your Dysport treatment approach. For younger patients, Dysport is an excellent treatment for wrinkle prevention, as it’s always best to get ahead of wrinkles before they get a chance to settle in. For older patients, however, whose skin already exhibits static wrinkles, a consistent Dysport regimen (i.e., once every three months), coupled with improved skincare and laser treatments, is our recommendation for softening signs of natural aging.

The Severity of Your Lines and Wrinkles

If you have  more severe facial lines, they will reappear more easily after your treatment. However, the reappearance will be gradual. This can help you determine what kind of follow-up schedule you’d like to implement over time. For example, you can adopt a more preventive schedule and treat it as soon as you see the wrinkles begin to develop.

The Health of Your Skin

Your skin health will also determine the longevity of your results. We’ve already noted that the thicker your skin, the longer your results will last. Generally, thicker, more plump skin is more resistant to wrinkling. Elasticity also impacts your skin’s resistance to wrinkling.

Dysport and BOTOX: Are There Any Differences?

With all this information about Dysport, you may wonder how it differs from BOTOX.

BOTOX and Dysport are safe options when used by trained professionals, such as Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. William J. Vinyard, MD, FACS, and his team of experts. Both Dysport and BOTOX contain the Botulinum Type A neurotoxin used to treat wrinkles. They have both been accessible for quite some time, with Dysport being the most recent addition to the facial rejuvenation market (2009).Determining whether you choose BOTOX or Dysport depends mainly on your goals. If you’re unsure how to choose between Dysport vs. BOTOX, Dr. Vinyard and his team of experts can help you put together a treatment plan!
