We all understand the miracle of childbirth: bringing another human being into the world is one of the most exciting times in a woman’s life. However, while most of us see only the beauty of a pregnancy, for a woman, the physical changes brought by it can be problematic for the mother’s sense of self-worth and confidence.

Nature demands sacrifices from every one of us. Although women would risk anything for their children, that does not mean they automatically lose the right to feel good about their bodies. On the contrary, after a long pregnancy, you should reward yourself with a set of cosmetic surgical procedures aimed at restoring both your pre-pregnancy looks and confidence!

Here at the Vinyard Institute of Plastic Surgery, we believe nothing is better than helping a mother regain her confidence. With this in mind, today, we’re tackling plastic surgery’s solution against postnatal aesthetic imperfections: the mommy makeover!

What Is A ‘Mommy Makeover’?

A mommy makeover is a comprehensive set of cosmetic surgical procedures commonly done after a mother no longer considers having children in the future. These procedures focus on restoring a younger version of oneself, taking into consideration each aesthetic aspect affected by pregnancy.

What Surgeries Does A Mommy Makeover Typically Include?

#1: A Breast Procedure

The most obvious changes that happen to a woman’s body during pregnancy relate to the breasts: they can become too large, or even be prone to sagging. However, different types of breast procedures can target and successfully eliminate these issues:

A Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery, scientifically called reduction mammoplasty, is the most effective procedure for removing excess breast fat and dermal tissue. Through this procedure, women can, once again, enjoy breasts proportionate to their bodies and alleviate the mental and physical challenges caused by excessively large breasts (macromastia) and or sagging breasts.

Don't let excess breast tissue ruin your holidays.

A Breast Lift

Together with breast augmentation, breast lifts are the most sought-after mommy makeover procedure, with a 114% growth in the number of procedures since the year 2000. A breast lift can breathe new life into women by recreating a youthful, more uplifted breast profile. The excess skin is removed, and the surrounding tissue is retightened to support the new breast contour. Moreover, a breast lift can reduce the areola, whose growth is associated with pregnancy.

A Breast Augmentation

While some women experience volume growth in their breasts during pregnancy, others go through quite the opposite process. For these women, the answer lies in breast augmentation surgery.

This procedure can employ two different techniques, namely breast implants or fat transfer, to increase breast size and restore breast volume lost during or after pregnancy. Additionally, the patient will enjoy a more rounded breast shape and better symmetry at the breast level.

On the one hand, with breast implants, the patient will achieve breast augmentation through silicone implants. On the other hand, with fat transfer, the plastic surgeon will transfer fat from one part of the patient’s body to the breasts, in a procedure referred to as fat transfer breast augmentation.

#2: An Abdomen Procedure

The next step towards the perfect mommy makeover is treating the abdominal area. Let us take a look at the most common abdominal procedures:

Tummy Tuck

Tummy tuck surgery, scientifically known as abdominoplasty, is one of the best answers plastic surgery has for a stunning, well-toned abdomen. This procedure creates a smoother and stronger abdominal area by removing excess fat and skin while also restoring the muscles weakened during pregnancy.

Reshape. Rejuvenate. Reclaim your confidence.

Liposuction

With the nickname “lipo” resonating into our patients’ ears, liposuction surgery reshapes and improves specific body areas by eliminating accumulated fat deposits and by enhancing the overall body contour. For superior results, many patients choose to integrate liposuction into a more comprehensive cosmetic surgery plan, along with a facelift, breast reduction surgery, or a tummy tuck.

BodyTite™

A different, less-surgical approach to abdominal rejuvenation comes with the BodyTite™ procedures. Using the radiofrequency-assisted liposuction (RFAL) technique, BodyTite™’s state-of-the-art technology helps melt excessive fat, stimulates collagen production, and tightens dermal tissue. After the procedure, the patient will enjoy a smoother and tighter abdominal area. BodyTite™ can be performed together with a liposuction procedure to achieve superior results.

A Vaginal Procedure

While we have already covered the breast and the abdominal areas, another body area requires just as much attention: the vaginal area. The whole process of pregnancy and childbirth are responsible for numerous issues: laxity, volume loss, dryness, painful intercourse, and even Stress Urinary Incontinence (uncontrollable urinary leakage). Many women, unfortunately, do not even realize these issues, nor are they informed about how to fix them. Luckily, with the help of a few vaginal rejuvenation procedures, all of these issues can be solved.

Vaginal Rejuvenation Procedures

On a minimally invasive level, two treatments have shown superior results. The first one is FORMA V, which is a device that employs radiofrequency energy to strengthen the pelvic floor and increase lubrication without any associated pain. After the procedure, the patient will enjoy a remodeled genital area and increased comfort during intercourse.

The second treatment, FEMtite, enhances the radiofrequency technique to help reduce the size of the labia or other vulvar tissue, such as the mons pubis and the clitoral hood. Micro incisions are employed to remove superfluous tissue and create a superior vaginal area. Although mild pain levels are present, most patients find FEMtite tolerable; our medical team, led by Dr. William J. Vinyard, MD, FACS, always employs anesthesia to minimize the chances of any discomfort.

These procedures offer the advantage of a speedy recovery while avoiding incisions. However, if a surgical approach to vaginal rejuvenation is the patient’s preference, we have them covered with surgical labiaplasty, a procedure that aims at restoring symmetry between the labia minora. Our medical team can perform this procedure in our Port St. Lucie, FL, office with local anesthesia.

With so many vaginal issues caused by pregnancy and childbirth, including a vaginal procedure into your mommy makeover is the safest way to ensure a complete postnatal recovery!
