Radiofrequency microneedling uses a handheld device that combines cutting-edge dermal needles and advanced light-based technology to improve the skin.

About Microneedling

Port Saint Lucie, FL cosmetic plastic surgeon Dr. William Vinyard uses an exceptional approach that creates excellent results for our patients with a treatment known as radiofrequency (RF) microneedling. RF treatments have been around for many years and are well-known in the cosmetic industry for skin tightening. This particular type of treatment uses heat to stimulate the production of collagen in the deeper layers of the skin to create a tighter, smoother surface. This technique can be used with microneedling to optimize the results. At Vinyard Institute of Plastic Surgery, we often add this new advancement to our Port Saint Lucie, FL patient’s skin care treatments to create firmer skin, a smoother texture, and a glowing complexion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is a candidate?

If you are 40 years of age or older and are starting to notice discoloration, smile lines, age spots, and other skin problems (that can come with age and sun exposure), RF microneedling might be the perfect treatment for you. RF microneedling may be an excellent choice if you wish to:

  • Tighten the skin, producing a more refreshed appearance
  • Enhance skin texture, tone, and pigment
  • Repair skin irregularities, such as blood vessels and discoloration
  • Reduce the appearance of age spots and sun damage
  • Treat acne scars and other forms of scarring
  • Rejuvenate skin for a younger, glowing look
What's the technique?

Morpheus8 utilizes microneedles that puncture and create micro-injuries that “disrupt” the cells and produce collagen. Some also refer to this as collagen induction therapy. New skin grows as the skin heals, leaving the top layer feeling and looking smoother, brighter, and rejuvenated. The handheld device, which emits radiofrequency heat, works by delivering short pulses of RF energy through an array of 25 sterilized, gold-plated microneedles. The energy is transmitted through the needles, which simultaneously punctures the skin and circles back the electrodes on the skin. The RF energy heats at levels that provide cumulative and ongoing benefits.

What can I expect?

RF microneedling treatment will take place inside the Vinyard Institute of Plastic Surgery office with the use of a numbing cream to minimize discomfort. During your appointment, the handheld device will roll over the desired area, repeating the process until the desired results have been reached. Patients should expect minute pinpoint scabs to appear 24 – 72 hours after treatment, which will naturally shed when the underlying micro-injury has healed. Results become visible as the skin heals over the 3 – 4 weeks after having a microneedling with RF procedure. Optimal results usually call for 3 – 4 treatments 3 – 4 weeks apart.

How much does RF microneedling cost?

A cost for an RF microneedling session will vary, depending on your needs and the number of sessions scheduled to reveal your optimal improvements. In your consultation, our staff will go over all your questions and estimate your total costs.

How many RF microneedling treatments should I get?

Each patient is unique and some patients may require more procedures than other patients. Our staff will take the time to perform a thorough assessment of your skin and take into account your needs and wants to help decide how many treatments you will need. Usually, most patients receive 3 – 4 sessions spaced about a month apart.

What are the benefits of RF microneedling?

An RF microneedling treatment is both safe and effective for most complexion tones and types, and it can be used on almost any area of the face and body. RF microneedling treatments offer impressive results and minimal time needed for recovery for patients who aren’t ready for a surgical facelift or body lift. RF microneedling is also a great option to refresh the appearance of your skin a few years after a facelift or body lift surgery.

Does RF microneedling hurt?

Since a topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area, most patients experience little to no discomfort during the procedure. Throughout your treatment, our team will check in to make sure you are doing all right. When the local anesthesia wears off, you may feel a little discomfort for a short time as your skin is healing itself.

Can I combine RF microneedling with other treatments?

Even though RF microneedling can deliver great results by itself, you may consider combining it with another treatment for more improvements. During your initial consultation, our team will listen to all your concerns and goals before recommending RF microneedling, plus additional treatments.
