There’s no doubt about it: we live in an age of appearances. Everywhere we look, we’re bombarded with images that tell us what beauty is supposed to look like — and what better way to embrace those standards than by enhancing the features you love the most?

Facial rejuvenation has come a long way since its origins as wrinkle-reducing injectables such as BOTOX and implants decades ago, and now they’re reaching even further into the realm of facial perfection with injectable dermal filler treatments.

In this article, Glenda Grady, Vinyard Institute of Plastic Surgery’s Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner who has an extensive background in dermatology and aesthetics, answers the frequently asked questions about injectables used today for cosmetic enhancements—along with everything you should know before getting your first injection or undergoing additional treatments.

What Are Injectable Treatments?

Injectable treatments are a great way to restore volume loss, boost self-confidence, reduce the appearance of aging, and promote overall youthfulness to the face,” says Glenda. “These treatments can also be combined to address several areas in one session.”

While not all injectable treatments are the same, there are three main categories that non-invasive facial rejuvenation procedures fall into: neurotoxins, fillers, and lasers. Each type has its unique benefits when addressing specific cosmetic issues, but they’re all effective at promoting natural anti-aging results.

What Do Patients Need to Know about Injections?

Glenda is a firm believer in the beauty of a natural appearance. “I want to enhance my patients’ natural beauty and make them a better version of themselves,” she says. Many patients just want their youthful energy to reflect in their outward appearance.”

That’s why Glenda likes to talk with her patients about how specific treatments can achieve results without changing their overall facial structure. For example, she will discuss filler injections such as Restylane and Juvederm. These injectables smooth out deep lines and add volume to areas of the face that tend to become hollowed-out, such as under the eyes and around the cheeks. BOTOX injections temporarily inhibit muscle contractions, thereby improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles – primarily on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and on the sides of the eyes (Crow’s feet).

What Are the Hottest Injectable Treatments at the Moment?

“The chin is in! This may be due to the whole Zoom subculture following the pandemic. Juvederm Voluma is one of the hottest and most popular all-around lines of dermal fillers for facial structure support, while Restylane Kysse is very popular and effective as a lip filler,” says Glenda.

Juvederm Voluma is especially great for adding volume to the cheeks, chin, and jaw, while products such as Restylane Kysse provide structural support and subtle enhancement to the lips. “Lip fillers are especially popular, with a wide array of products to choose from to meet your desired aesthetic goal.”

BOTOX injections also continue to be very popular among patients of all ages who want to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on their faces.

Who Should Receive an Injectable Treatment?

“We can create an individualized aesthetic plan for everyone! There may be some considerations for your specific anatomy and cosmetic history, which can be covered during the initial complimentary consultation at VIPS. There aren’t numerous contraindications to injectables, but an in-depth history and examination will be performed during your consultation to ensure you are a candidate for treatment.”

“You should plan your injectable treatment session at least two weeks prior to any big social engagements as you will want to give time for your face to heal from any potential bruising, which is a common side-effect of cosmetic injectables.”

Why Signing Up for an Injectable Treatment Plan Is a Smart  Idea

Injectables are for anyone who wants to look refreshed, rested, and rejuvenated. Glenda says that the options will only increase as the technology advances.

“Most injectables can last one to two years with instant results and minimal downtime and side effects. Injectables help promote natural beauty while reducing or even eliminating the need for cosmetic surgery,” says Glenda.

“Injectables can be combined with other treatments, such as lasers and microneedling, to rejuvenate the skin and enhance the injectable results.”
