Know Your Different Implant Options.

During your consultation, the type of filler (implant or fat transfer) will be selected based on your body size and build, and the results which you hope to attain. Today, the most common modern implants are saline or silicone gel, both widely selected by patients and approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), though other options include gummy bear implants and fat grafting (a fat transfer).

Determining the best implant option for you is a very personal, tailored decision. You should consider the texture, the feel, the size, and the material, along with your desired final outcome. Dr. Vinyard always has samples of the silicone and saline implants for you to feel and touch as you determine which you prefer. Throughout your lifetime, your breasts and the desires for your appearance may continue to change. It’s possible that the way you desire to look in your 20’s will differ from your 40’s. If you choose to adjust, reduce, or enhance your breast augmentation, that is always possible.

Note: Patients must be at least 18 years old to receive saline implants, and at least 22 years old to receive silicone implants.

Size

Size is determined by the number of CCs of saline, silicone, or fat being utilized within the implants. To determine the ideal implantation size for you, Dr. Vinyard will measure the original breast tissue which you have alongside understanding the size breasts you hope to achieve through the surgery.

Profile

Breast implant profile refers to the projection: what is visible from the side view of the breasts. There are options from low to extra high profiles.

Is Fat Transfer For You?

If you are choosing to have a fat transfer in addition to your breast augmentation, the process requires an additional surgery. The fat is first removed from a predetermined location with ample tissue to collect. Most often, fat is removed from the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, or flanks. The choice of two surgeries will require extra careful care after the procedures are completed to ensure that your body recovers properly and thoroughly.

Are You A Candidate For Breast Augmentation?

During Your VIPS Consultation.

When it comes to breast augmentation surgeries, Dr. Vinyard invests a significant amount of time in the consultation (1 – 1.5 hours) in order to ensure your complete satisfaction with the final results. You will be able to compare your current breast size with multiple other breast sizes to find the perfect size, shape, profile, and texture for you.

Dr. Vinyard will spend time with you, one-on-one, discussing the differences between the various types of breast implants and helping you evaluate the ideal option for your body. There are a lot of myths and false information about breast implants. Dr. Vinyard will explain the science and facts about breast implants to you.

During The Augmentation Surgery.

Breast augmentation typically requires 1 – 2 hours to perform as an outpatient surgery. Once you’re under a general anesthesia, the surgical incisions will be made… During the procedure, an incision is created and the implant is slipped into its proper position. There are multiple methods that may be chosen for implant placement: submuscular placement (under the pec muscles) and submammary/subglandular placement (over the pec muscles).

The exact placement of the implant is based on the overall type and size of the implant, in addition to the expert opinion of Dr. Vinyard. The implant will be moved in through the incision and surgically deposited into the pocket which was created, fitting it into its final position. Afterwards, the incision is closed with either sutures or surgical adhesives.

Journey to Plastic Surgery

After becoming a general surgeon, Dr. Vinyard was accepted into a highly sought after plastic surgery residency at the University of California-Davis in Sacramento, CA. Under the guidance of the chief of plastic surgery, Dr. Thomas Stevenson, he received training in facial, breast, chest, upper and lower extremity, and abdominal wall reconstructions. He also honed his skills in skin cancer management and cosmetic surgery.

In addition, he received training in the repair of pediatric congenital abnormalities including cleft lip, cleft palate, and cranial synostosis. In 2008, he went on a mission trip with his pediatric plastic surgery mentor, Dr. Granger Wong, to Timor, Indonesia where they performed several cleft lip and palate surgeries at the Kupang Hospital and Trauma Centre. With the assistance of his Residency Program Director, Dr. Michael Wong, they developed a new photographic standard for imaging patients after massive weight loss. Dr. Vinyard presented their work at The California Society of Plastic Surgeons and The Rocky Mountain Association of Plastic Surgeons joint meeting in 2008 and was awarded the J.K. Hardesty Award for The Best Resident Paper. In 2009, Dr. Vinyard completed his required training and became a plastic surgeon. Dr. Vinyard spent the next year in an advanced breast and aesthetic surgery fellowship. Under the tutelage of Dr. Grotting, he learned the latest techniques in breast, body, and facial plastic surgery. Dr. Vinyard also studied Dr. Gotting’s techniques in nonsurgical cosmetic procedures such as BOTOX Cosmetic and dermal filler injections, laser skin resurfacing, and skin care.

Advanced Specialties

Although he had developed the surgical skills necessary to begin his plastic surgery practice, he still felt there was more that he could learn. With the desire to perfect his technical skills and surgical judgment in the area Cosmetic Plastic Surgery and Advanced Breast Reconstructive Surgery techniques, he sought additional training from a world-recognized leader in plastic surgery. In 2009, Dr. Vinyard moved to Birmingham, AL with his wife and two children. He spent the next year in an Advanced Breast and Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship. Under the tutelage of Dr. Grotting, he learned the latest techniques in Breast Reconstruction, Breast Augmentation, Breast Lift, Breast Reduction using the Superior-Pedicle Sculpted Pillar technique, treatment of Gynecomastia, Endoscopic Brow Lift, Facelift, Mini-Facelift, Rhinoplasty, Blepharoplasty, Otoplasty, Abdominoplasty, Brachioplasty, Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction, Lower Body Lift, and the nonsurgical cosmetic procedures such as BOTOX Cosmetic Injection, Dermal Filler Injections, Laser Facial Resurfacing and Skin Care Assessment/Management.
