Injectable Wrinkle Relaxer with Botulinum Toxin – Port St. Lucie, FL

BOTOX injections are a nonsurgical treatment to temporarily reduce wrinkles and lines (like worry lines or Crow’s feet) caused by muscle contractions.

What is Botox?

Are you seeing your facial expression “etched” into your skin? Wrinkles on your skin in the upper and midface may be to blame, which is why our board-certified cosmetic plastic surgeon, Dr. William Vinyard, performs injections of BOTOX here in his Port Saint Lucie, FL practice. This facial rejuvenation procedure provides amazing results and is popular among both men and women. BOTOX can make a dramatic enhancement to dynamic facial wrinkles, which are the result of expressions and movement from the muscles contracting on the forehead. The lines disappear as the face relaxes, but dynamic creases can still exist.

BOTOX is a purified strain of botulinum toxin (type A) that temporarily blocks the movements of the underlying tissue and muscle. To diminish the appearance of these dynamic lines and wrinkles, BOTOX is injected to relax and soften the skin. This specific injection is most commonly placed by Dr. Vinyard between the brows where the number “11” appears, on the Crow’s feet, and throughout the forehead. As a temporary solution to revitalize aging skin, we advise scheduling regular BOTOX injections at the Vinyard Institute of Plastic Surgery (VIPS). We recommend you treat the areas of concern with BOTOX every 3 – 4 months. This will help you to maintain that overall smoother appearance. As you continue to do this, the muscles will atrophy (get smaller) and may even require less BOTOX or less frequent treatments to maintain the result.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is a candidate?

BOTOX is used for individuals who hope to diminish and soften the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, lines, and moderate folds on their face in a nonsurgical way. BOTOX is often thought of as a preventive treatment even if static wrinkles have not yet formed — keep in mind how often you tend to make facial expressions. It is an effective nonsurgical solution if you have obvious forehead lines or frown lines between the brows. It’s also a solution for Crow’s feet around the eyes. If you have deeper lines, a combination of BOTOX and a filler may be a better option. Also, if you are older with moderate to severe skin laxity, you may be a candidate for a facelift. This offers a more dramatic result and it is meant to last years. VIPS offers various facelifts, blepharoplasties, and brow lifts as great options.

What's the technique?

BOTOX injections are for the wrinkles between the eyebrows (glabella region), Crow’s feet, and the horizontal lined across the forehead. Dr. Vinyard’s approach to treating with BOTOX is to try and create a more natural and smooth appearance. This appearance is achieved by preventing the muscles of the forehead, glabella and/or Crow’s feet regions from moving. You will still be able to create expressions with the use of the muscle surrounding the eye.

BOTOX injections are performed as an outpatient procedure right here at VIPS. If it is your first time to visit us in Port Saint Lucie, FL, we commonly perform the injection within the same appointment as your consultation with Dr. Vinyard. You will be asked to make a few facial expressions using the upper face, such as squinting, frowning, etc., which will allow us to determine where the injections are best placed. The skin will be cleansed and BOTOX will be injected under the skin using a fine needle, followed by a cold compress to help reduce bruising, swelling, and discomfort. You can request a numbing cream to make the procedure more comfortable, but it generally is not needed. BOTOX injections typically take about 10 – 15 minutes, after which you can get back to your normal day with no required recovery period.

What can I expect?

After the BOTOX injection, you are allowed to return to your usual schedule, but strenuous activities like exercise should be postponed for at least a day. You will be asked to sleep with your head propped up for the first night and to not touch your face, which may accidentally spread the treatment to other areas. The treated areas of the face may become red, bruised, or swollen for a couple of days, but you should not have any lasting or serious side effects. In the majority of cases, it often takes about 5 – 7 days before the full effects of BOTOX become visible. The results generally last 3 – 4 months. You should speak to your injector about how often to schedule a follow-up appointment at VIPS to refresh your results.

To maximize your results for facial rejuvenation utilizing a nonsurgical approach, you may also benefit from an injection of Juvéderm XC. This is most commonly used to address wrinkles in the lower part of the face such as the nasolabial folds (wrinkles from the nose to the corner of the mouth), labiomental folds (wrinkles from the corners of the mouth to the chin), and around the mouth. We refer to this as a “liquid facelift.” It is a nonsurgical way of achieving a modest amount of facial rejuvenation without the downtime and investment of more aggressive treatments. At VIPS we carry only physician-dispensed skin care lines that require a prescription.

How much does BOTOX cost?

The total cost for BOTOX injections will depend on how much product is used. This will vary based on your needs and goals. During your consultation, Dr. Vinyard will form your personal treatment plan before he can estimate your costs. BOTOX can produce impressive results when performed by a skilled plastic surgeon like Dr. Vinyard, but it can be unsafe if done by someone without training, which is why it’s better to avoid places offering cheap or knock-off injections. To save money, ask about the Brilliant Distinctions Rewards Program so you can start earning points for BOTOX and other Allergan products, like Juvéderm.

How long will my results last?

Improvements from BOTOX can last up to four months. Most patients schedule a visit every season to sustain their results, but you may come back sooner. If you are getting BOTOX while you are younger as a preventive treatment, you may be able to schedule visits further apart. After listening to your goals and forming your treatment plan, Dr. Vinyard will be able to estimate when you should schedule your next appointment.

What's the difference between wrinkle relaxers and fillers?

Wrinkle relaxers (like BOTOX) and wrinkle fillers (like Juvéderm and Restylane) are both treatments that improve the appearance of wrinkles and smooth fine lines. BOTOX relaxes overused facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, like frown lines (between the eyebrows), Crow’s feet (in the outer corner’s of the eyes), forehead wrinkles, and smile lines. Dermal fillers add volume under the skin to correct hollow areas and decrease fine lines throughout your face. Based on your goals, Dr. Vinyard may recommend BOTOX, fillers, or a combination of both for a liquid “facelift.”

What's the distinction between BOTOX, Dysport, and Xeomin?

BOTOX, Dysport, and Xeomin are various brands of injectable wrinkle relaxers that are created with botulinum toxin (type A). They all can relax facial muscles to improve wrinkles, but each formula is slightly different to suit specific areas of your face and your aesthetic needs. There are subtle distinctions between them including the amount the botulinum toxin (type A) within each dose, treatment spread, and length of time to see results. Dr. Vinyard will choose the most desirable medication to achieve your goals.

Is BOTOX safe?

When applied properly, BOTOX rarely causes any complications. With that said, it is important to choose someone who has experience and training in handling this injectable, like Dr. Vinyard or his Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner. Overinjecting BOTOX can give you an undesirable outcome. A skilled injector will use just enough of the medication to effectively suspend the muscles from moving that cause wrinkles while leaving nearby muscles unaffected. One of the most popular cosmetic treatments on the market today, BOTOX is safe and approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In addition to cosmetic uses, BOTOX is also used to treat medical issues including facial spasms, excessive sweating, uncontrollable blinking, and migraines.

With BOTOX, you don’t have to display emotions you are not feeling just because your wrinkles are prominent. You can frown, smile, laugh, and make any expression you want without seeing wrinkles and lines thanks to BOTOX injections. You can also inquire about some of our other spa-like services (chemical peels, facials, and more) to ease lines forming on your skin. While you are here at VIPS, we will provide a quote for you to maintain your BOTOX treatments for a year. You may desire to combine BOTOX with a dermal filler like Juvéderm XC. In that case, we will provide a quote as a package. To smooth out lines throughout the face, we invite you to schedule a consultation appointment with cosmetic plastic surgeon Dr. Vinyard in Port Saint Lucie, FL to discover more about BOTOX.

Chin Implants vs. Dermal Fillers: Why We Prefer Dermal Fillers at VIPS!

Are you considering chin enhancement surgery? You’re not alone. Chin augmentation procedures, also known as genioplasty, have been on the rise in recent years. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons estimates that over 40,000 chin augmentation surgeries were performed in 2020. If you’re considering this procedure, you’re probably wondering whether a chin implant or a dermal filler procedure is the right choice for you. While both can add definition and contour to the chin, dermal fillers are now the preferred option. Here’s why.
